Movie Review: Speedway (1968)

Elvis plays a race car driver, Steve Grayson, but one look at him with women, and you realize that he’s still playing Elvis Presley.

This movie seems to attempt to recreate the magic of Viva Las Vegas. Not only is he a driver, but he’s paired this time around with a love interest who can sing: Nancy Sinatra as IRS agent Susan Jacks, who’s auditing him because his manager, Kenny (Bill Bixby), gambles on their winnings.

Presley and Sinatra are fun to watch together, but individually, they both leave much to be desired.

I think it really comes down to the fact that this just isn’t one of Elvis’s better soundtracks. There’s no real standout song, and though I enjoyed the movie, that did drag it down.

Rating: 6/10
