Movie Review: Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight (1995)

This movie exemplifies the series it spawned from pretty well. It’s relatively well made, with impressive production values. And it’s not that great, with the gore and monster effects being the clear highlight.

The story isn’t too interesting, and it kind of sacrifices the intrigue that the movie starts with as it goes along. To be fair, Billy Zane is very fun.

He’s so cool and smooth, and kind of creepy when he needs to be. It’s probably a better performance than the movie deserves, and honestly the supporting cast isn’t too bad. Dick Miller’s in there. And William Sadler is pretty good.

The movie’s reasonably entertaining, but I would have enjoyed some more cutaways to the Cryptkeeper. He bookends the movie, just as he does with the stories from the series, but given that this was a half-hour series, and this movie’s three times as long, I’d have liked to see something done a little different.
