Movie Review: Tales from the Hood 2 (2018)

This movie is far better than it really has any right to be. It’s made by Netflix, it’s low budget as hell, and it’s released nearly 25 years after the original movie. But they did bring back Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott. And they got Keith David to play Satan, so it can’t be all that bad.

We have an incredibly lazy anthology setup, where Portifoy Simms (David) is brought in to tell stories so that they can be uploaded to some artificial intelligence robot, RoboPatriot, who’s basically RoboCop. It’s very bizarre, and the Keith David segments are where you really feel the movie’s lack of budget.

But most of the tales are at least decent. My favorite was probably the one abou the medium, played by the mayor from the first two seasons of Scream, Bryan Batt.

When we actually see RoboPatriot, I can’t deny it’s not embarrassing. And we can see the ending coming from a mile away, but it’s also incredibly enjoyable. The ending really worked for me in a way that I didn’t expect it to.

The movie’s not half bad. Don’t be put off by the low budget or by the dumped on Netflix status of this one.

Rating: 6/10
