Movie Review: Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)

They actually did it. They made Leatherface into an antihero. Now I get it; Leatherface probably can’t understand that what he’s doing is wrong, but never before has the series tried to make you sympathetic for him. It’s misguided.

I’m also confused. This movie came out in 2013. Alexandra Daddario, the film’s lead actress, was born in 1986. This movie initially picks up right where the original left off, with a Sawyer baby that would become Daddario getting adopted. Is she supposed to be almost 40? Or did the filmmakers think the original took place in like the mid-nineties?

As nice as it was to see the movie stick to continuity at the start of the film, it’s weird to see them disregard it so clearly like that.

Aside from all that, the movie still isn’t very good. There is one pretty effective scare, but the movie’s mixed morals really drag it down.

Visually and performance-wise, the movie has nothing to offer. It’s probably the worst in the series, though not the most forgettable.
