Movie Review: The Babysitter (1995)

--

I stumbled upon this movie when I was looking for erotic thrillers to rent on Google Play, and I’m not sure if it’s a disappointment or not. Alicia Silverstone plays the titular babysitter Jennifer, and the movie kind of boils down to everyone wanting to fuck her.

The dad who she works for fantasizes about her. She’s got an asshole boyfriend. And there’s even some other quiet boy from school who has a big time crush on her and for some reason spends the night hanging out with her boyfriend.

The dad fantasizing about her is particularly perverted and fun, in its own way.

The dad eventually gets drunk at this social gathering he and his wife are at, and he goes home right when Alicia’s boyfriend and that other guy from school get in a massive fight.

It feels like the movie is approaching an incredibly dumb climax, but it never fully goes there, and instead aims for unsatisfying melodrama.

This isn’t a good movie, but it could have been so much more. It was very close to being so-bad-it’s-good, but alas, it’s just a mediocre slightly erotic thriller with an attractive lead who can’t really act.

Rating: 3/10
