Movie Review: The Curse of the Werewolf (1961)

Hammer’s only werewolf movie is a bit of a disappointment, though it’s really not a bad movie. It has a solid cast, as usual, including Oliver Reed, but the werewolf itself leaves much to be desired.

Abandoning the typical Victorian setting for these kinds of movies, we instead have 18th century Spain as our backdrop, which the filmmakers don’t do a whole lot with, unfortunately. It’s good to see something different, but ultimately, it feels like the same kind of story we’d usually have, just with different costumes.

This movie’s reasonably enjoyable, but it is very talky, and a lot slower than I’d like it to be.

Rating: 5/10
