Movie Review: The Guyver (1991)

--

The Guyver has some classic b-movie stuff. It’s got creative monsters and surprisingly convincing costumes. It’s got a likable cast of b-movie stars, some of whom have small roles (like Jeffrey Combs, and a cameo by Linnea Quigley), and some of whom (Mark Hamill, David Gale, and Michael Berryman) have much larger roles.

And still it largely falls flat. It doesn’t help that nearly every attempt at humor really doesn’t work. It also hurts that the action feels very repetitive.

I do like the look of the monsters a lot, and even the Guyver looks pretty cool.

But these costumes aren’t as neat looking when they’re in fight scenes. They’re kind of lame looking at that point.

Anyways, the movie’s definitely watchable, but it just kind of goes on for too long, and it loses some of the fun.

Rating: 4/10
