Movie Review: The Mummy’s Hand (1940)

The Mummy’s Hand is considered to be a sequel to 1932’s The Mummy, but it’s an entirely new story, and there’s even a new mummy, Kharis (Tom Tyler). Unlike Karloff’s Imhotep, Kharis remains in his bandages and just sort of lumbers around, killing people. It’s more what you’d expect from an old mummy movie, but it’s considerably less interesting.

The mumy at least looks pretty good. It’s more classic Jack Pierce makeup.

This movie’s a bit more of an action movie than the 1932 original, which was a very slow movie. The sequels would pick up even more on the action and adventure, but this I think is a nice balance between horror and adventure. It’s not a great movie, but it has some likable characters and an exciting finale.
