Movie Review: The Street Fighter’s Last Revenge (1974)
Terry’s still not as much of an asshole as he was in the original, and in this case, the movie isn’t nearly as brutal. Sure, I watched an R-rated cut, but this is also true even of the X-rated cut, as I understand it.
This movie may not be fantastic, but it feels more like a movie than Return of the Street Fighter. There’s less filler, and it’s great to see Sonny Chiba working alongside a partner who’s just as skilled (Reiko Ike, who would later star in the Sister Street Fighter movies).
The movie’s entertaining, and believe it or not, Terry actually has a bit of an arc in this movie and in the series as a whole. I didn’t expect that, but this movie is the first one to surprise me since the original.
There’s a bit more of an attempt to make Terry kind of like a James Bond figure, and I don’t think that works all that well. But the movie’s quite fun.
