Movie Review: The Time Machine (1960)

Based on the classic H.G. Wells novel, The Time Machine is a minor classic that had some groundbreaking effects in its day.

The movie stars Rod Taylor (The Birds) as H. George Wells, a man who invents a time machine that takes him into the distant, post-apocalyptic future. This future has humans living in caves, hiding from the vicious Morlocks.

The Morlocks are a lot of fun in a bit of a campy way, sort of like bad costumes from the original Star Trek series. Though I was disappointed by how much of the movie they take up. It really feels like there should be more to the plot.

This movie is reasonably entertaining. It’s no masterpiece, and it is severely dated in many ways, but it’s worth watching.
