Movie Review: The Verdict (1982)

The Verdict is a really great legal drama. The case isn’t as interesting as a lot of other movies in this genre, but Paul Newman’s performance and the writing by David Mamet really stand out.

I’m not a huge fan of the way this movie is shot. There are a lot of long, static shots from far away, and I would like some more medium shots and closeups, especially because the performances are so good.

Paul Newman probably gives his second best performance (Cool Hand Luke probably can’t be topped), and he’s been one of my favorite actors for years now. He’s so great, and his redemption arc feels so real.

Rating: 8/10
