Movie Review: The VVitch (2016)

The VVitch is a movie that’s far more about mood and atmosphere than it is about story, and it works very well because of that. This is Robert Eggers’s debut film as director and writer, and that’s quite frankly shocking; he made this movie using natural light and just has such a great handle over every aspect of the filmmaking.

The film is eerie and creepy from the very beginning, and it culminates in a satisfying way towards the end. The performances are all really good, and the attention to period detail makes this film really interesting.

I don’t want to say a whole lot more about it because if you haven’t seen it, it’s probably best to go into it pretty fresh. Just know that it’s not your typical horror movie.

Rating: 8/10
