Movie Review: The Woman in the Window (1944)
Fritz Lang could sure as hell make a movie. If you like film noir even just a little bit, this is a must watch. Featuring some solid performances (especially from Dan Duryea and Joan Bennett), a wonderful score by Arthur Lange, and spectacular direction from the one and only Fritz Lang (Metropolis, M), The Woman in the Window is in many ways the quintessential film noir.
The story gets started with a painting of a beautiful woman, which leads to a strong cast of interesting characters and plenty of suspense.
This movie does come with one giant caveat that keeps it from being pretty much a perfect movie, and it is the ending. I don’t want to spoil anything especially because this movie is definitely worth watching, but the ending does something that endings aren’t supposed to do, and I felt a little cheated. Though that having been said, it wasmore interesting than I expected it to be, and I’m not quite sure why.
