Movie Review: Twilight (2008)
I don’t really want to hate on this movie so much. It’s gotten probably more hate than it ever deserved. But that having been said, it’s really not very good. It’s got distractingly bad special effects, weird and lazy writing, and not particularly compelling performances.
The big thing the movie needed to get right here is the chemistry of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and it’s just not there, unfortunately. I’m not even sure Stewart or Pattinson are bad individually. I think Stewart’s got a tough role to nail, since so much about her character comes through from the narration.
But it’s frustrating nonetheless.
And perhaps the movie’s biggest sin is that it feels like the story isn’t complete. I know there are sequels, obviously, but it doesn’t feel like this movie has a satisfying narrative on its own terms.
