Movie Review: Vampires (1998)

Vampires starts out pretty strongly, with a team of vampire hunters led by Jack Crow (James Woods) methodically tearing down a vampire “nest” and dragging the vampires out to burn in the sunlight.

But the movie gets pretty dull after the main vampire comes and slaughters the majority of Crow’s team in retaliation.

Though the gore effects by Kurtzman, Berger, and Nicotero, are outstanding.

The biggest problem with this movie is the character of Crow. He’s incredibly unlikable, and the movie seems to think James Woods is just the coolest dude ever. It’s just really weird.

He’s just out here smackin’ hoes and acting so cool, but it’s just like 50-year-old James Woods, and it just doesn’t work. But the movie’s still pretty entertaining until a very underwhelming climax.

Rating: 5/10
