Movie Review: Yor, the Hunter from the Future (1983)

This is an odd mix of science fiction and fantasy. It starts out like it’s just your typical sword and sorcery barbarian movie, with Reb Brown and Corinne Clery in loincloths.

I like this stuff, especially the exciting scene early on with a triceratops, which is itself pretty impressive in kind of a low budget way.

It’s also great to see a big prop like this get just covered in blood as it gets hit by Yor’s axe over and over.

But then at some point, the movie takes a shift into weird sci-fi territory. The movie’s got flying saucers, lasers, time travel…it’s just weird.

But through it all, Reb Brown’s wig is the glue that keeps it all together. Reb Brown’s performance? Not so much, and he’s probably the biggest thing that holds this movie back. Like it’s not going to be a good movie no matter what, but if he was just more charismatic, it’d be a lot more fun.
