Movie Review: Zardoz (1974)

Zardoz is definitely an interesting movie, but it’s not a good one. It’s strange and artistic, but ultimately a mess as well.

But it is entertaining. This movie is probably worth watching just for curiosity’s sake. John Boorman is certainly a capable director (Excalibur is a very well made movie), and yet two of his best remembered movies (this and Exorcist II: The Heretic) are absolute disasters.

I mean, what is this?

The movie aims for interesting commentary on religion and society, but it’s not executed well. It’s sort of surreal, and the movie feels very much a product of its time. It feels like it was made by a bunch of people on LSD, which makes it interesting, but again, not good.
