Night Gallery episode review — 3.14 — The Doll of Death

Original air date: May 20, 1973
Director: John Badham
Writer: Jack Guss

Rating: 6/10

One of the best segments of Night Gallery involved an evil voodoo zombie, so my hopes were high for this one. This is simply no “The Doll.” But it’s not bad. It seems like the third season really got into its groove towards the end, which is unfortunate.

A young trophy wife, Sheila Trent (Susan Strasberg) leaves her much older fiancee for a young man, who is attacked by an invisible force due to a voodoo doll in the possession of her ex-fiancee, Alec Brandon (Barry Atwater). Obviously no one believes the whole black arts angle other than Sheila.

This isn’t the best story but there is some enjoyable stuff nonetheless. It’s a bit silly, but it’s pretty well acted, and effectively directed.
