Quantum Leap episode review — 4.2 — Play Ball

Original air date: September 25, 1991
Director: Joe Napolitano
Writer: Tommy Thompson

Rating: 6/10

I love baseball, and thi sactually isn’t Quantum Leap’s first foray into baseball. The pilot had a kind of tacked on last 20 minutes or so where Sam was playing baseball in the Minors somewhere.

Baseball and Quantum Leap just kind of go together. This is a show that’s all about americana, and what’s more americana than America’s Pastime?

Yet this episode left me wanting more. It’s not bad, but it does little to stand out. Sam’s an aging Minor League ballplayer who’s supposed to help a volatile player enter the Majors. It’s a plot with some stakes, but not as grand of ones as we usually see from the show, and maybe that’s where I take a bit of issue with it.

But it’s entertaining enough. But it’s a letdown compared to the excellent season premiere.
