Quantum Leap episode review — 5.11 — A Tale of Two Sweeties

Original air date: January 5, 1993
Director: Christopher Hibler
Writer: Robin Jill Bernheim

Rating: 8/10

Sam jumps back in time into the body of a bigamist, visiting his wife and family, but with his other wife and family also visiting him.

Al insists that he’s supposed to figure out which wife he’s supposed to stay with, but Sam being such a good guy, he doesn’t want to let down either families.

The plot is a lot of fun, as Sam has to avoid being seen by each woman at different points, and occasionally, by both of them when they’re together.

Everything is complicated by Sam apparently being a deadbeat gambler who owes a bunch of money, and frequently borrows from his two sons. While the gambling plot is resolved rather conveniently, the episode is well written enough to provide a satisfying conclusion to the main family plot. It’s a strong episode.
