Ranking the Scream Movies

From Worst to Best:

4. Scream 3 (2000)

In a series that’s always been at least a little over the top, this movie is distractingly so. It verges on comedy, and the twists aren’t satisfying. The only real thing holding this movie together is Neve Campbell.

3. Scream 4 (2011)

While the movie doesn’t really take any risks, I think the 11-year gap might make you forget a bit about how closely this follows the Scream formula. It adds some more modern elements that may or may not work, but for the most part, it’s a welcome return to Woodsboro.

2. Scream 2 (1997)

Scream 2 is a solid sequel. It extends its satire to not just be about horror movies, but incorporates sequels. The characters work nearly as well in this movie as they do in the first one. It just has a few too many ridiculous moments, in my opinion.

  1. Scream (1996)

It’s difficult to overstate just how important or influential this movie was, and I’d add another word: ingenious. It was exactly what the horror genre needed at the time, and it still works surprisingly well today.
