Ranking the Seasons of Twin Peaks

For this blog, I’ve rated every episode out of 10, but separately, I have further rated each episode out of 100, which allows me to say which 7/10 episode I liked better than the other one.

For this, I will be taking the average rating out of all of the episodes of each season.

From worst to best:

3. Season 2 (1990–91) — Average rating: 73.5/100

Best episode: Episode 29/Beyond Life and Death

By my account, the 12 worst episodes of the series were all from this season. Despite the general public opinion on this season, it’s not a complete waste of time. The first half of the season is great, on par with season one. And after the BOB/Leland stuff is done, it’s pretty dry, and definitely plotless. It does come back to finish strong, though.

2. Season 3 (2017) — Average rating: 88.78/100

Best episode: Part 8/Gotta Light?

Definitely the most different season of the series, this is remarkable filmmaking. It feels like an 18-hour long movie, for better and for worse. Most episodes aren’t that satisfying on their own, while they are incredibly well made. But the season as a whole is remarkable.

  1. Season 1 (1990) — Average rating: 90/100

Best episode: Pilot/Northwest Passage

Originally when I started doing this list, I wasn’t sure if my favorite was season 1 or 3. They’re so different, it’s hard to choose. That’s why I had to go with the numbers, but really this season is one of the best in television history.
