Second Viewing: Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968)

Christopher Lee plays a damn good Dracula, there’s no denying that.

But he’s often let down by the scripts, and the lack of interesting supporting characters. This movie does not have these problems. There’s a very interesting story with a very compelling lead character in Paul (Barry Andrews), who is alienated due to his atheism, which adds to further problems in terms of combatting Dracula, since Christian iconography only works against him if the person is a believer.

It’s great stuff. And of course, Veronica Carlson is incredibly easy on the eyes as his girlfriend.

This is probably my favorite Hammer Dracula movie, and one of my favorite vampire movies ever. The movie has a lot of momentum and life to it, and it’s always great to look at.
