Second Viewing: Hush (2016)
Hush is great, even if it’s not as good as I remembered it (I really did love it the first time I saw it). Few movies do as good a job with getting you on the side of the protagonist, or in her point of view.
Kate Siegel really does a fantastic job here, not using her voice except for a few brief scenes depicting the character’s imagination.
There’s not much plot, and the plot definitely isn’t what makes this good. So much of this movie rests on Kate Siegel’s shoulders, and she’s an incredibly compelling lead.
But this movie also features some great writing, for which we have Kate Siegel and her director and husband Mike Flanagan to both thank. This movie sets up a lot of things early that pay off really nicely, and I’m amazed how much depth they’re able to give the main character in such a short amount of time.
