Second Viewing: Suspiria (2018)

Suspiria is an excellent film that goes in completely different directions from the original masterpiece from Dario Argento. I don’t like it as much as the original, but with this movie being so different, it certainly serves a purpose.

The movie explores a lot of things that are only really in the background of the original film, such as the actual dancing, and importantly, the setting of Berling during the Cold War.

Dakota Johnson plays Susie Bannion, though she’s largely a different character than Jessica Harper in Argento’s film.

She’s a gifted dancer, sure, but she ends up being the center of a conflict between multiple factions of witches at the school.

The dancing choreography is really well done as far as I’m concerned, and some of the dancing is even used disturbingly for horror.

It’s a truly dark film that’s brimming with atmosphere, great performances, and disturbing moments. The ending is certainly not easily forgotten.
