Second Viewing: The House by the Cemetery (1981)

Now I never go into a Lucio Fulci movie expecting it to make sense, but man, would it be nice here. I had seen this movie before, and I really didn’t remember much about it, and having seen it now a second time, I can see why.

The most memorable aspect of the movie is certainly the character of Bob, or more specifically his voice actor.

It’s so clearly an adult doing his voice that it’s incredibly amusing, but this kid is very annoying overall.

The only other stuff that’s memorable here is the gore, which, as you can expect from Fulci, is pretty great.

For what appears to be a simple haunted house story, this movie’s incredibly gory — more so even than most other Fulci movies I’ve seen. It’s actually a bit offputting, if I’m being honest, and I think that’s because this movie appears to just be a haunted house story, but eventually it’s got a monster. There’s a bit of a disconnect here, and maybe it would have been worth it if the monster was great.

It’s not. I kind of hate this thing. It doesn’t ruin the entire movie, I suppose, but it still kind of sucks.
