Second Viewing: The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)

This movie is probably more interesting than good. Made on a dare to prove that he could make a movie in two days, Roger Corman’s The Little Shop of Horrors is a charming if uneven dark comedy.

The plot is great. It’s basically a remake of A Bucket of Blood, which is the far superior film. But Dick Miller’s in this, too, in a smaller role.

The cast is a bit of a letdown for me. Nobody’s quite as funny as their dialogue should be, and it should be said that the script is pretty good. The movie’s not entirely well paced, of course, which is a major problem when the movie’s only about 70 minutes.

But I still do enjoy this movie. It definitely earns a few laughs, with the Jack Nicholson scene being the best one.

Rating: 6/10
