Second Viewing: Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994)

New Nightmare is a very clever movie, and a welcoming return for serious Freddy. He’s a very different character this time around, but that’s justified by the rather weird plot, which turns out to be quite interesting.

As an attempt to mix horror and real life, it predates Scream as something genuinely creepy. Not believable, perhaps, but interesting, almost satirical.

It’s definitely in the running for being the best Nightmare movie. Craven is at his absolute best here.

Rating: 8/10
