Star Trek episode review — 3.5 — Is There in Truth No Beauty?

Original air date: October 18, 1968
Director: Ralph Senensky
Writer: Jean Lisette Aroeste

Rating: 6/10

This episode involves a race of aliens that are so ugly that humans looking upon them will go insane and die. It’s great stuff. Spock has some special visor of course.

This episode has a very strong guest star in Diana Muldaur as Dr. Miranda Jones. She’s got some ulterior motives, and she also develops a kind of friendship or some kind of relationship with Spock.

But meanwhile, the Enterprise is dealing with a few of its crewmembers going insane.

During the hand-to-hand combat scenes, we get a lot of shots from the perspective of the insane guy, and it’s always really awkward.

Not a big fan of the execution there, but the episode’s decent overall.
