The Twilight Zone (2019) episode review — 1.10 — Blurryman

--

Original release date: May 30, 2019
Director: Simon Kinberg
Writer: Alex Rubens

Rating: 6/10

Just like the original Twilight Zone, the season finale here gets very meta, with a story about writers, and about the writer of the episode, or at least a fictional writer for The Twilight Zone series: Sophie Gelson (Zazie Beetz).

Jordan Peele appears as himself, as he tries to get the narration write for an episode about Seth Rogen writing about a nuclear war that becomes true. The narration he ends up reading is about Sophie, who insists she didn’t write it, and there’s some reference about a blurry man who ends up in the background of every scene.

I guessed where this episode was going pretty early on, whic is disappointing. The Blurryman guy is pretty creepy, but it doesn’t feel like The Twilight Zone. I guess most of this season has been that way, though, so whatever.

It’s actually pretty effective as short horror film, but it fails at what it attempts to do: be about something more.
