The Twilight Zone (2020) episode review — 2.6–8

Original air date: June 25, 2020
Directors: Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead
Writer: Glen Morgan

Rating: 5/10

This is a pretty generic underwater monster kind of thing. it has some twists at the end, but it still doesn’t amount to much. It’s just a monster.

If Joel McHale is a capable actor outside of comedy, it’s not really on display here. Going all the way back to the first episode of the first season, this series has attempted to give a dramatic outlet for primarily comedic actors. Kumail Nanjiani, Adam Scott, Seth Rogen…I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise from showrunner Jordan Peele. But I think it occasionally hurts the show (not with Nanjiani or Scott, but here, I’d say).

Then again, there’s so little to this story. The twist here is that the monster is smart. And that’s basically it. The episode isn’t.
