This Time with Alan Partridge Episode 3 Review

Original air date: March 11, 2019
Directors: Neil Gibbons and Rob Gibbons
Writers: Steve Coogan, Neil Gibbons, and Rob Gibbons

Rating: 9/10

This is a fantastic episode that has some wonderful slips of the tongue with Alan accidentally saying something quite sexual, which is one of the highlights of this season. Though nothing compares with him saying that someone used to bring homeless men off in the street, from the previous episode.

Alan does a deep dive on corporal punishment in schools, going back to his youth school.

This also includes a segment with Alan’s face CGI’d onto a young boy actor, which is just the kind of absurdly dumb decision that I expect from an Alan Partridge-starring television show.

Alan also interviews a Scottish man and it takes him a while to figure out why the guy talks the way he does, with “Huh” coming at the end of any sentence, leaving him to believe that he is being asked a question. Jennie doesn’t have a problem with it, of course.

My favorite bit of the episode comes with the panel on corporal punishment. Alan listens to a confusing story from a man (the same man who confused the hell out of him from the audience in a previous episode). It’s a story about how he was beaten by his wife because he was caught smoking her cigarettes, and it’s got all the “Who’s on first” type of back and forth that you’d like to see.
