Twilight Zone episode review — 4.17 — Passage on the Lady Anne

Episode 4.17 “Passage on the Lady Anne”
Original air date: May 9, 1963
Writer: Charles Beaumont, based on his short story
Director: Lamont Johnson

Rating: 2/10

This may be the most tedious episode in the entire series. It doesn’t really go anywhere. It takes a long time to reveal its secret, even if you can guess it before, and doesn’t have a good payoff.

The story follows a married couple on the slowest passenger ship available to London. They’re hoping the 13-day voyage will give them a chance to rekindle their marriage. Immediately when they get there, though, the other people on the ship want them to leave.

It’s just not a very interesting story, and the episode focuses more on the marital conflict than on any of the somewhat interesting fantastical elements, making it a bit of a bore.
