Episode 5.14 “You Drive”
Original air date: January 3, 1964
Writer: Earl Hamner, Jr.
Director: John Brahm

Rating: 7/10

“You Drive” is one of the first Twilight Zone episodes taht I remember seeing, and it left an impression. It’s not a perfect episode, but it’s an effective horror episode still.

On his way home from work one day, Oliver Pope (Edward Andrews) runs over a paperboy. He stops to look at him, but panicking, he drives off. The boy eventually dies in the hospital, and Pope tries to put it behind him, but starts acting suspiciously.

He and his wife are woken up in the middle of the night tot he sound of a honking horn. Oliver slowly realizes it’s his car’s horn.

The car continues to act strangely, even when Oliver’s wife is driving it — when it controls itself and heads to the scene of the accident.

Oliver learns that his car was spotted at the accident, so he starts walking to work. The car follows him, chasing him down. He falls in the road and the car stops just before it would run over his head.

The car’s door opens and Oliver steps inside, and the car takes him to the police station to confess.

This episode is all about the climax. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s pretty scary. Overall, I like the story of this episode. It’s a simple story, but it’s neat.
