The Year of the Words

Happy New Years! 🎉

As cliche as it may sound, the phrase “New Year, New Me” brings forth a new energy to reboot our progress of life. It automagically pushes us to take on new challenges, make the best of moments and build habits that we may not venture about during the middle of the year. Whether a new year’s resolution may actually work or not, the act of setting one encourages a sense of self-accountability to ensure that the upcoming year is a productive one. With that being said, I would like to declare my new year’s resolution to write and contribute more in the year of 2018.

Why writing?

Everyone has the ability to communicate their ideas to the world in one form or the other. Whether it be making videos or with a brushstroke, the essence of explaining and documenting an idea is an important path of learning and reflecting. Very often, we are indulged into our busy schedules that we forget to reflect the progress that we have made to reach our end goal. In ways, I want my writing to be a medium of reflecting my thoughts and achievements that I do with my day to day tasks. Hopefully in that process, I can become a better writer and share all of my findings with everyone. I recently came across a quote that resonated with me for a while.

Until the lion learns how to write, every story will glorify the hunter. — African proverb

But about what?

About anything really. I believe the best lessons to be learnt are in small day to day tasks we carry out. Whether it be learning something new about tech, interacting with colleagues or pondering what the future might look like, the act of writing down might be worthwhile experience when looking back after the year has passed. Although writing is particularly new to me since I am usually driven deep with school, side projects and hackathons. I hope to bring a new perspective with all the work that I am doing on the side as I enter into the field of Software Engineering.

The challenge

So here it is! My personal challenge for 2018 is to write a blog piece once a week. Nothing too small or big, just a balanced way of integrating the act of writing into my schedule. So for the next 52 weeks, I would love to share my insights on my adventures during my final semester of university, side projects, hackathons and the life after graduation. To keep myself accountable, I will share regular updates on Twitter as well as add to the timeline below whenever a new piece is published. So stay tuned!
