Asana2Go Creates Your Eisenhower Matrix

Eisenhower (Urgency/Importance) Matrix created by Asana2Go

Asana2Go, the multi-purpose tool to flexibly copy, export and print from Asana (no affiliation), now easily creates attractive Eisenhower (Urgency/Importance) charts from any of your tasks, regardless of how they’re organized. (Other new Asana2Go features, creating projects dashboards/roll-ups and import/export of mind maps, are covered separately.)

Note: The video shows the use of a custom field, but if you prefer you can instead assign a tag of either Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4 to achieve the same effect.

Get Clarity and Insight with Eisenhower

The four simple quadrants in the matrix can provide clarity and insight, helping you to not just Get Things Done but to Get The Right Things Done. For example, despite the apparent urgency, an urgent task that is not important perhaps should not be prioritized over other tasks that actually are important.

What’s an Eisenhower Matrix?

Also referred to as Urgent-Important Matrix and Stephen Covey’s time management matrix, the Eisenhower Matrix uses four quadrants to help you prioritize tasks by urgency and importance.

“I have two kinds of problems, the urgent and the important. The urgent are not important, and the important are never urgent.” — President and General Dwight D. Eisenhower (probably)

While that may be true for the General, the chart named after him allows for all combinations of urgency and importance!

The Four Quadrants

The left column pair of quadrants are both urgent; the right-side are not.

The top row pair of quadrants are both important, the bottom row are not.

Each quadrant is clearly labeled in the output based on a survey of others’ implementations (but you’re welcome to customize this easily in the Asana2Go format that generates this output). Going in order from left to right, then top to bottom:

  1. Urgent & Important tasks are considered Do First; these are critical
  2. Less Urgent but Important tasks are labeled Schedule; they’re key to do, just maybe not right now
  3. Urgent but less Important tasks are captioned Delegate; these deceptive tasks appear critical but perhaps aren’t
  4. Neither Urgent nor Important tasks appear as Don’t Do; ignore if possible
