In the market of cloud computing sector, AWS has more than 31% of the worldwide market share amongst its competitors like Microsoft, Google, IBM, etc.

-Statistics 2020.

Wondering why is this fact important for you? The only concern one has after leaving college is to get involved with tech giants and make big money. One of the emerging field flowering out, is Cloud Computing. To get you started, AWS Student’s Club (ASC), Charusat is starting a series ranging from basics to advanced topics, all HANDS-ON. Being a part of the renowned club under Amazon Web Services, this blog is to enlighten you, how to create an AWS account.

Amazon gives a whole one year, FREE and fully functional account for users who can use and experiment different services like AWS EC2, S3, DynamoDB, with little restrictions, as per the consumption for these components.

To create a free tier account, you have to follow the steps given below:

Step 1: To Sign-up, Go to: https://aws.amazon.com/ to create a new account.

Step 2: After reaching their website, as you can see there are two accounts, kindly check the root user. Click on Create a new AWS account.

Root user account.

Difference between a root user and an IAM user.

All AWS accounts have root account credentials. These credentials allow full access to all resources in the account. You should store the credentials in a safe place and instead use AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) user credentials for day-to-day interaction with AWS, and you can also help your friends by providing them certain functionalities of AWS.

With IAM, you can securely control access to AWS services and resources for users in your AWS account. For example, if you require administrator-level permissions, you can create an IAM user, grant that user full access, and then use those credentials to interact with AWS. Later, if you need to revoke or modify your permissions, you can delete or modify any policies that are associated with that IAM user.

Step 3: Enter the valid required details like, Email address, Password and AWS account name. Also, Complete the security check after the following window details are filled.

Note: This is a dummy ID.

Step 4: Now it will ask you for your personal details, please fill the fields and note that they should be valid.

Step 5: Here is the crucial step. Fill the Payment Information. Please put the card that is valid, because the site will verify the same by executing a minimal amount transaction against the card on the file to check that it is valid. This charge varies with the region, for India, it is only ₹ 1.

Note: Many of us try to search on google, if there is any possibility that one can create an AWS root account without giving away their credit/ debit card details, the answer is a big NO. Here is what you should know, along with completing the series, we will guide you with billing details and the cost that you will pay if you don’t delete the resource.

Our cloud experts will help you delete the necessary services, to save your money. But if you are working on private project, we won’t be able to help you, so please take notes from AWS docs to see which components can cause you money.

Along with this, if you still don’t want to give your payment related information, its understandable. The other option is to create a AWS Educate account. But, there are some services that Educate account cannot provide, hence it is NOT FULLY functional.

Step 6: Next, is the identity verification. Amazon does a call back to verify the provided contact number.

Step 7: Choose a support plan. Subscribe to one of the plans like Basic, Developer, Business, or Enterprise. The BASIC plan, costs nothing and is good to get familiar with AWS.

Step 8: The final step is confirmation. Click the link to login again and it redirects to AWS management console.

Congratulations, you have started your journey on AWS Cloud.

As the account is created, it can be used to avail various AWS services. Which means you can surf in the world of Cloud, because working on ground is too mainstream. Get my pun here?
