Introduction to Sustainable September 2020
Written by ASEFEdu
In 2018 ASEFEdu launched the #SustainableSeptember social media campaign. This campaign was part of the 22nd ASEF Summer University (#ASEFSU22) on “Sustainable Tourism: Youth Driving Green Growth” that was held in Croatia & Slovenia from 12–23 September 2018. During the Online Preparatory Phase of the project, we put forth the “Sustainable September Challenge” to the ASEFSU22 participants, ASEF’s staff and online followers to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle throughout the month of September 2018. This led to an output of 37 videos created by the ASEFSU22 participants, sharing their commitments to the Sustainable September initiative.
At ASEFEdu, we believe in the importance of spreading awareness on Sustainability and have continually engaged our networks to make a commitment towards maintaining Sustainable lifestyles. Since the success of this initiative in 2018, we have pursued the Sustainable September campaign on an annual basis. Our 2020 run begins today!
In the lead up to our next ASEF Summer University — the 23rd ASEF Summer University (#ASEFSU23) on “ASEM Cities of the Future: Developing Liveable Habitats” which will be held in Bangladesh, Pakistan & India in 2021, this coming 3rd edition of the campaign shares the same theme, through exploring Sustainable Development Goal 11 — Sustainable Cities and Communities.
This year we’ve also partnered up with the School of Active Citizenship and the student participants of their Young Leaders Policy Lab (YLPL) and Young Change Makers Lab (YCML). These students aged between 14 to 17 have produced a range of social media content, from videos, graphics, articles and more to help spread awareness of Sustainable Cities and Urbanisation. Each one of them made a pledge in committing to a more Sustainable September.
