Popular Technology Common in Households with Small Children, but Parents Worry About Overuse

The vast majority of households with children 0–8 years old have a handheld device, but many parents express concerns about the time spent by family members on these devices, according to a recent study by YouGov, Read Aloud 15 Minutes, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Another survey found that experts believe parents don’t recognize the importance of everyday communication. Seventy percent of audiologists and speech-language pathologists warned in a recent poll by ASHA that parents don’t fully appreciate how essential regular verbal interaction is. These interactions, which can be hindered by tech overuse, are vital to a child’s development.
