THE DOMINO EFFECT : Chapter 2

“Every great change starts like falling dominoes.” -BJ Thornton

Thought Question: What area of your life would improve the most by adding a more sequential thought process?

My Biggest Lesson Learned From This Chapter: Be patient, it takes time.

I am an individual that obsesses over numbers, math, and anything that sounds logical. Saying that this chapter was absolutely everything to me would be an understatement. I’ll further elaborate after I talk about what happened in the chapter.

The author starts the chapter by talking about the world record for most dominoes fallen at once (4,491,863 dominoes in case you were wondering) and all the numbers that have to do with it. The most interesting fact that they bring up is the fact that:

“a single domino is capable of bringing down another domino that is actually 50 percent larger.” -pg. 13 THE DOMINO EFFECT

They brought up scales and figures to illustrate a geometric domino progression. In only 57 dominoes you could almost reach the moon!

I think the moral of this chapter was to teach readers that to solve extraordinary problems you need to think of the smallest first step and complete it; this will send off a string of steps that become clear and will lead you to your desired end result.

The final paragraph in the chapter brings together these seemingly unnecessary facts. The author sums it up by saying:

“They key is over time. Success is built sequentially. It’s one thing at a time.”

Truly, being a former red, this was one of the most refreshing and best informational chapters I’ve ever read. The use ofnumbers, visuals, and logical presumptions are outstanding. I say, read it for yourself!

In case you forgot what book this is about it is called THE ONE THING by Keller, Papasan.
I’m reading this and updating my Medium with reviews on each chapter. I will be rating the chapter on each of these topics:
— Influence
— Reach
— Quality of Discussion Topics
I will also talk about the biggest lesson that the chapter taught me. I may also ask a thought question that you can answer. If there’s anything else you’d like me to cover please let me know!
