Last night, we spent the evening exploring Times Square. It was an electrifying experience, to say the least. Though we visited fairly late, the neon lights and illuminated screens that surrounded us made it feel like daytime. It seemed at least ten times brighter than Shibuya! I was amazed at the sheer diversity of the people there, as well. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to explore such a wonderful and wondrous place.

Once we returned to our room, we rehearsed our introductions and presentations. I helped by simplifying translations and helping with English pronunciations. I was completely exhausted by the end of the day!

This morning, we collaborated with each other improve our presentations. We then headed to Philadelphia on Amtrak and then to Swarthmore College. Here, we will be presenting to and exchanging ideas with Swarthmore College students. I’m particularly interested in their thoughts on gender equality, as well as projects/clubs on campus that promote social justice on campus.

We introduced ourselves and talk to some students at the Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility. Above is a photo of Denise Crossan, the Lang Visiting Professor for Issues of Social Change at the college. I had the opportunity to meet her during the summer while interning at Ashoka Japan, so I am excited to see her and her students’ work firsthand!
