Singapore, 18 May 2020 — Cross sector partnership incubator Asia P3 Hub, and Transformational Business Network Asia (TBN Asia) have today announced they are joining forces.

The announcement comes in the lead-up to the 5th annual TBN Asia Conference from 22–30 May 2020.

This merger will combine the platforms and resources of the two non-profits under the umbrella of TBN Asia, and bring together a great synergy of vision, values, as well as operational frameworks to fight poverty through enterprise.

“Bringing the two organisations together generates much needed cooperation to tackle poverty by concentrating on economic empowerment. I am confident that working together will generate a multiplier of impact in Southeast Asia,” said Melvyn Mak, Chairman and CEO of TBN Asia.

“Asia P3 Hub and TBN Asia share a passion for positive social impact through co-creating solutions, providing an open platform for facilitating partnerships and strengthening the ecosystem that tackles issues of poverty,” said Christy Davis, Founder of Asia P3 Hub. “We look forward to working together with and for diverse communities across the region.”

Mak will continue as Chairman and CEO of TBN Asia, and Davis will join the Board of Directors of TBN Asia.

TBN Asia started in 2014 as a network bringing stakeholders — impact enterprises, banks, social impact funds, NGOs, foundations, family offices, universities, private investors, etc. — together to train social entrepreneurs to be investment ready. The organisation regularly convenes conferences for social enterprises to showcase and connect with social impact funds and private investors.

Founded in 2016 and incubated by World Vision International, Asia P3 Hub is a multi-sector platform that works with business, start-ups, government, not for profit organisations and academia to build strategic, mutually beneficial solutions that tackle poverty issues. The Hub champions cross-sector collaboration, and ‘combinatorial innovation’ — the power of pooling resources to create a positive multiplier effect for all involved.

The organisations had already jointly launched TBN Asia’s Social Entrepreneurship Training Hub (SETH) in Jakarta, supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. The training program commenced in February 2020, with its first cohort of 10 social enterprises. The aim of SETH is to prepare 40 social entrepreneurs in Southeast Asia to be investment ready, with a commitment to connect them to investments of at least USD1.5 million over the next two years.

About the TBN Asia Conference

Transformational Business Network Asia (TBN Asia) will be hosting its 5th conference from 22–30 May 2020. In response to the devastating impact of COVID-19, TBN Asia has created a virtual conference “Survive to Thrive” where 100% of ticket sales and sponsorships will go to a Resilience Fund for Social Enterprises. Due to COVID-19, it is possible that millions in Asia will be driven into poverty, and that poverty levels in some regions could be set back as much as 30 years. More than ever, we need the hearts and hands of our social enterprise innovators. The TBN Asia Conference is a platform to connect impact funds, banks, investors, mentors and social entrepreneurs to discuss and tackle poverty issues as well as demonstrate the transformative power of impact investing.

Chairman of SpringHill Management Ltd, Dato Kim Tan, is the keynote speaker for the global conference kickoff on 22 May, titled ‘Why We Need Social Enterprises Now More Than Ever’ along with other leaders and practitioners in social innovation.

This is followed by The Big Picture on 26 May, with Christy Davis, now Executive Director, Lien Centre for Social Innovation at Singapore Management University, moderating a “3P” panel — bringing together representatives from government, business and the social sector to explore how impact ecosystem players take a macro look at the effects of COVID-19 on social enterprises.

Conference sessions will align to the 3 main groups in TBN’s Impact Ecosystem: social entrepreneurs, investors, and the expertise network. Speakers will explore themes such as “The Undeniable Potential of Women led Social Enterprises” and “Co-funding Solutions to Save Southeast Asian Social Enterprises.”
