This month we celebrated two global events: International Women’s Day on March 8th and World Water Day on March 22nd. IWD promotes balance for a better world (gender-balance to be specific), while WWD highlights the importance of water — a basic human right.

Balance, rights, fairness — often talked about, but does everyone really experience it? If three people of different heights are given boxes of equal levels to step on so they can see over the fence (as in the left photo above), is there balance? What is actually the difference between Equality and Equity? Equality is treating everyone the same, while Equity is giving everyone what they need to be successful.

Equity is required to achieve equality. Equity is also one of the core principles of partnering. It is one thing that we must always keep in mind, whether we’re collaborating, addressing humanitarian issues, or solving world peace!

Our newsletter this month is packed with inspiring stories, quotes of wisdom, and helpful advice to take away, so you can do your part in making this world a better place for all.

GLOBAL EVENTS — Women and Water

Happy International Women’s Day!

On March 8, the whole world celebrated International Women’s Day. This year, the campaign theme is #balanceforbetter, encouraging everyone to help create balance towards a better working world. Everyone has a part to play, and this theme provides a unified direction to guide and galvanize continuous collective action. We asked women leaders in our community for their thoughts on how partnerships can contribute to a balanced, better world. Check out what they have to say!

World Water Day 2019: To “Leave No One Behind”, Go Where No One Wants To Go

Whoever you are, wherever you are in the world, safe and clean drinking water is your human right. However, 2.1 billion people are still living without safe water at home. Marginalised groups — women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people — and people in fragile contexts and hard to reach places are often overlooked, and they face additional challenges to access and manage the safe water they need. March 22nd is World Water Day and this year’s theme, “Leaving no one behind,” is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons so many people are being left behind. World Vision sometimes goes to extreme lengths to ensure that the most vulnerable children and communities in fragile contexts have access to sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene. Read our reflections and stories in this article!

Putting the Social in Healthcare: Health x Social

On March 14, we had interesting conversations with a diverse group of attendees at the Health x Social event about integrated healthcare in Singapore, as we explored the power of collaboration to bridge the gaps and co-create solutions to help make the patients’ journey much better, no matter the age and no matter the stage they are at in their journey. Health x Social is an event jointly organised by Asia P3 Hub and raiSE Singapore, as part of our Bridges and Boats Series and raiSE’ Industry Circle Series.

CONVERSATIONS

All-Rounder: Angel Theodora

What is an all-rounder? It is a person who exhibits versatility and adaptability, able to adjust and move, not just across types of jobs, but in different countries, cultures and contexts as well. Within World Vision in Asia Pacific, one person that quickly comes to mind when we think about all-rounders is Angel Theodora, Programmes and Operations Director of World Vision Nepal. Check out our conversation with her for some nuggets of wisdom, and find out more about what being an all-rounder is all about.
