Singapore — October 25, 2018 — This multi-country initiative will improve access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation and good hygiene practices in schools in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, impacting 3,000 students and teachers. “We’ve enjoyed a strong relationship with World Vision for many years,” said Jean Gong, Senior Manager, Internal Communications & Stewardship, Kitchen & Bath Group, Kohler Asia Pacific Ltd. “This is a wonderful opportunity to build on this well-established partnership with a multi-sector, multi-country approach to deepen and scale our impact in the lives of children and families in Asia.”

Managed by World Vision’s innovative Asia P3 Hub

Singapore-based Asia P3 Hub was seeded by World Vision to incubate and facilitate multi-sector partnerships addressing issues of poverty through co-created solutions. Using a “combinatorial” approach, partners pool resources and assets in creative ways to generate innovative, sustainable solutions. “We value our partnership with Kohler in Asia — it leverages the core strengths of both Kohler and World Vision in unique ways,” stated Christy Davis, Executive Director, Asia P3 Hub. “In fact, the beginning of the Kohler-Asia P3 Hub partnership began with our energetic logo, designed by Kohler’s creative design team. This partnership also builds on initiatives implemented together in countries such as China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.”

The challenge

Poor access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation facilities and good hygiene practices in school poses significant challenges to child education. On average access to water in schools in Asia Pacific region is as low as 48% and 23% for sanitation (UNICEF/WHO, 2017).

Main goals

Vietnam will provide safe drinking water for two preschools in Hoa Binh Province. Indonesia will improve access to safe drinking water, and improve sanitation and proper hygiene practices in two primary schools in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Province, building on previous handwashing solutions co-created by Kohler, World Vision, and members of the community, government and schools. Philippines will improve access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation and proper hygiene practices for Ozamiz City School of Arts and Trades in Mindanao. Main goals for all three countries will be accomplished by May 2019, building on existing programmes already underway.
