Food Pride Challenge 2021

What is food to you? To me, food is many things but most importantly it’s a way to celebrate and share my Japanese-Canadian culture with other people. It lets me bring people together. It lets me tell a story about my identity and my heritage. It’s a form of protest to be able to pass down my knowledge to the next generation. It’s a way to honour those that came before us. It’s a way to bring healing to the soul at a time when violence and unrest seem abound.

So where does allyship come into play when it comes to food? Asian Leaders Alliance has started two things this May where we’d love as many people as possible to participate. Here they are:

  1. #foodpridechallenge Instagram campaign
  2. Clubhouse event

#foodpridechallenge

For the Instagram #foodpridechallenge there’s a few opportunities to get involved:

  1. We would love people to make posts of a dish from their culture and why they love it. This could be on Instagram, Twitter, or Tiktok. You can include our picture templates to add more context to your post.
  2. We would love people to reach out to influencers to encourage them to participate in the campaign.

Add these image slides to your Instagram posts to give context on the challenge:

Hi! I’m reaching out on behalf of @foodpridechallenge and we’re looking for people like yourself to feature on our Instagram page to showcase their food pictures, videos, and stories. If you are interested send @foodpridechallenge the media and captions you want posted.

Below is a description of the campaign we’re running if you wanted to get more involved.

Food is a way to bring people together and celebrate our cultures. Every dish has a story and is different in its own way. In honour of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (U.S.) and Asian Heritage Month (Canada), @foodpridechallenge wants to push for positive change with recent events through food! We want to encourage people to post a pic or video of a dish from their culture and why. We want your help to spread awareness of the different dishes out there within the global community!

Whether you are part of the Asian community or other communities we want to hear from you! To participate, do the following:

1. Post a photo or video featuring food that you love and why

2. Tag @foodpridechallenge and a friend to keep this going

That’s it! 😊 Looking forward to seeing, drooling, and hearing about your culture’s food ✌️
