What is the Witness Protection Program?
It is both a federal program, and some states have their own Witness Protection Program or WITSEC (Witness Security Program). It began in 1970, and there are about 19,000 people in the program.
Anyone on the WITSEC will have a new identity. It is for their protection. It becomes their second chance at living an ordinary life after working with the government to bring down a criminal syndicate, usually drug-related.
I can think of a few movies and TV shows that were all about the Witness Protection Program, and one stand-out movie is Sisters Act with Whoopie Goldberg.
When the actual character is revealed, these movies or TV shows become interesting to watch.
