Hey there beautiful, this post is for you if you’re;

  • Considering going natural,
  • Currently transitioning or,
  • Perhaps you’re a new natural who recently big chopped or,
  • You’re an old Naturalista who never really cared about her hair and wants to kickstart her journey to her natural hair goals.

If any of these scenarios are relatable to you, I kindly implore you to keep reading because I’ve got your back!

Now I’ll try my best to keep this simple but you have to promise to follow me attentively and clap aggressively when you’re done🤗

Before we begin, I’d like you to note that, natural hair is not ‘stressful’ and ‘difficult to maintain’ also that the key to crushing your hair goals conveniently, is speaking to a knowledgeable hair consultant and getting her to design a comfortable hair regimen for you as this will help you simplify the entire process. Anyway, these right here are the things to note because your healthy hair journey is NOT complete without these. Enjoy!

Tips to Ensure Healthy Growth.

The Right Attitude.

Why? because It’s really never actually that serious. So sis, first calm down and ease yourself of all the unnecessary pressure you’re putting yourself and your hair under.

You also need to be ready to unlearn some myths and quickly learn some new truths about your hair. This doesn’t mean you should soak in all the knowledge on the Internet cause most of it are FALSE.

It just means be open to asking questions you don’t understand as well as trying out new things and getting an in-house Naturalista on your hairs team.

Know Your Hair.

As much as you’re ready to jump on the waist length hair train and use all the ‘wonder-working miracle’ products available, you need to understand that if you do not know and understand your hair type and your hairs needs and preferences, you’ll end up spending twice as much time, money and resources on product after product and routine after routine because what formulators won’t tell you is your hair can’t be and your hair is NOT compatible with EVERY product on the market.

This is where a hair consultant comes in. Be sure to get one to help you correctly texture type your hair.

Good Hair Products!

Emphasis on ‘Good’ because not all hair products are good for your hair. Please be sure to stay away from products that contain harmful chemicals like;

  • Benzene,
  • Parabens,
  • Alcohol (etc).

Also ensure to get products that are made with organic ingredients and have water as their first ingredient. However, here are a list of essential products that Every Naturalista should have.

Essential Natural Hair Products : Shampoo, Deep Conditioner, Leave-in Condition, Essentials oils Carrier oils, Sealing butter, Styling/Curling cream

Build the Right Hair Regimen

A hair regimen is a combination of different carefully selected routines to help grow your hair. Routines such as;

  • Deep Conditioning
  • Protein conditioning
  • Scalp Massages
  • Protective Styling
  • Scalp Exfoliation and Detoxing
  • Detangling and Pre-pooing
  • Hot oil treatments (etc)

It’s always best to consult a Natural hair consultant to figure out the best practices for your hair and how best to carry them out as the right combination of routines done at the right time in the right way, will go a significantly long way in helping you reach your hair goals!

Eat Healthy or double up Supplements!

This may sound absurd but it’s the truth. Ingesting your nutrients is still a very important and much faster way to actually grow your hair as topically applying the most potent and effective products for your hair type, does not negate the importance of eating right! So if you’re not big healthy eating and consuming fruits and vegetables, I suggest you double up on vitamin and mineral supplements like

  • Vitamin C
  • Biotin
  • Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B complex (etc)

Oh! And don’t forget to drink lots of water 😜

Avoid Climate exposure.

Exposing your natural hair to the sun and her elements constantly is really detrimental to your hairs health so endeavor to protect your hair with a sealing butter and keep it in a protective style regularly. Protective Styles are basically styles that. relieve pressure from your roots and ensure that your hairs ends are tucked in.

This is key for retaining length!

Over Manipulation is a no-no

Remember that it is okay for your hair styles to not look crispy clean all of the time as continually touching up on your styles and re-packing your hair regularly can induce strain on your strands which will then result in breakage. Instead revel in the new growth from your roots and opt for low manipulation or protective styles like twists, corn-rows, updos (etc)

Satin/Silk bonnets/durags must be used.

Queens! Please not go to bed with your natural hair open on your cotton sheets. That’s a sure fire way to introduce stagnant growth and increased hair breakage. Always wear a satin/silk bonnet or scarf or durag. Alternatively, you could opt for satin/silk sheets and pillow covers to protect your hairs moisture.

DO NOT USE EGGS ON YOUR HAIR!

Sorry for the ‘All Caps’ but this is really important because a lot of new naturals and old naturals fall into this trap of thinking eggs are an awesome source of protein so automatically, they’re amazing for hair.

Please No! Here’s why. The protein content of eggs are too large for your hair to adsorb and so you’re basically wasting eggs you could eat for the same hair growth. Eggs should be ingested and not applied topically. Thank you😘

So there you have it! Your personal guide to healthy flourishing Natural hair. I really hoped you learnt something new.

Thanks for reading.
