So this might come as a surprise to some of us but no I kid you not. There are a whole lot of people out there who swear by the use of Methylated Spirit for the quick growth of long healthy hair so I decided to check the facts, the science and bring you the truth and nothing but the pure unfiltered truth. Let’s go!

Now first of all, Methylated Spirit is Denatured Alcohol or Denatured rectified spirit and it is a mixture of ethyl alcohol (95%) and methyl alcohol (%5). The methyl alcohol is poisonous and is added to prevent the methylated spirits being used as cheap drinking alcohol.

For all intents and purposes, Methylated spirit does not guarantee long hair or full hair if anything Methylated spirit is an extremely toxic drying alcohol that will dry out your skin and scalp which is bad for your hair. It can cause terrible irritation on your scalp especially for Naturalistas with sensitive or dry scalp.

However, Methylated Spirit can be used as a carrier to get growth stimulating products because Studies shows that topical application of alcohol penetrates into the skin and hair follicles easily. Hence, alcohol has been used to manufacture some hair products but please note that this is done professionally in a lab with adequate measurements.

Further more alcohol is also used in the extract of some of the best natural oils that can help with hair growth and thickness such as peppermint oil. Properly formulated alcohol infusions called Tinctures can also be applied on hair.

However although Methylated Spirits can be used to rid our hair and scalp of stubborn eecky build up, it’s really not advisable because alcohol can dehydrate your hair strands especially if you do not hydrate them after applying alcohol or methylated spirit.

So except you’re efficiently diluting these Spirits and then hydrating and sealing you hair afterwards, Please stay away from Methylated Spirits. There are a lot of other stress free and less toxic methods to clean your scalp and grow a healthy head of hair.
