As a fiber powerhouse ranked as one of the worlds healthiest snacks, it would profit you greatly to know that the star of our show today, Tiger nuts are not nuts at all. They are small root vegetables with a flavor reminiscent of almonds and coconuts and they earn their name from their tiger striped exterior.

Tiger nuts are usually ingested whole as they are without any need for formal preparation but, they can also be blended to make smoothies and ground into powder form to make pastries and other indigenous snacks. However, they are super amazing for growing and maintaining a healthy head of hair and I’ll tell you how and why.

Tiger nuts are high in Fiber, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Vitamin B, C, and E. They also possess Calcium, Sodium, Phosphorous, Zinc, Amino acids, Flavonoids and other minerals.

Fun fact; Tiger nuts have as much Iron as red meat and as much potassium as coconut water. They also have more fiber than chia seeds and quinoa.

Benefits of Tiger nuts for Hair.

  • Tiger nuts are an excellent way to combat inflammation-related hair loss or scalp conditions which is essential because when inflammation becomes long-term, it can cause a number of issues for your hair. Such as, death of dermal papilla cells on the scalp which are responsible for hair growth and regulation. Tiger nuts, however, combat this inflammation both short-term and long-term and keep your scalp and hair healthy.
  • Tiger nuts help protect our cells from damage and keep our hair and healthy. All thanks to their high dose of antioxidants and radical-scavenging molecules
  • They also very substantially aid the process of moisturizing strands and protecting them from the UV rays of the sun all while conditioning/softening.
  • Tiger nuts are also anti-microbial which is awesome since bacteria and fungus play a major role in a variety of hair-related maladies as from dandruff to folliculitis, these tiny microbes hurt healthy hair growth. Tiger nuts, though, are an anti-microbial powerhouse that protect you and your hair from the dangers of microbial overgrowth, supplementation can provide you with the healthy scalp you so desire.
