Summer fishing shall be a way for you to relax, to get close and enjoy the tranquility of nature, to enjoy the sheer enjoyment of gaining something through your effort. If you have missed such a great activity for last year, it’s the right time for you to get out and spend some time by yourself or with friends this summer. Before starting out, just make sure your have prepared what’s needed for summer fishing. Then what remains is just for you to enjoy the whole fishing experience.

Fishing reel and rod: reel and rod are most essential gear to have. They are generally promoted together. If not as a combo, you should make sure your reel and rod are compatible with each other. As for which one to choose, it varies with the fish type and environment. Small reels are beneficial for lake and river fishing; while for more professional fishing, bigger reels are better. For beginner, spincasting reel is suggested with its easy operation features.

Fishing Line: there are mainly three types of fishing lines: fluorocarbon fishing line, monofilament Fishing Line, braided fishing line. Fluorocarbon type is relatively stiff and bit hard tight to operate. Braided fishing line is suitable for deep water fishing with its high strength. Monofilament lines are the most widely used type among anglers with its low visibility and good price. As beginners, it’s a good choice to begin with. For small fish, choose a 6-pound test. For bigger fish, try a bigger 10–12 pound test.

Fishing hook: remember the larger the number of hook, the smaller the size. For instance a# 6 hook is smaller than a #1 hook itself. Thus for larger fish like bass, try a #1. For smaller fish like carp, try a #6 hook.

Fishing weight: it has something to do with water environment, fish type and attaching method. Generally speaking, 1.5–5 ounces fishing weight can be your ideal choice for small fish like carps. With the increasing of the targeted fishing load, the weight shall be heavier too. And heavy weight is ideal choice for deep water fishing.

Fishing float: it is a tool attached to the fishing line to serve as a visual indicator for bite or to help keep the bait at a desirable depth. You need to decide as per fishing water area, weather and fish type. When fishing for crucian in summer, long floating bobber with soft tail is your ideal choice.

Fishing lures: there are live bait and fishing lures. Before going out for fishing, do some research about the targeted fishing type and get familiar with their feeding habit. Then prepare preferred food accordingly. For instance, for fishing pelagic fish, insect lures are great choice.

Other accessories: you need to prevent yourself from the scorching sun in summer. Thus you will have to bring a pair of sunglasses with you, a hat or an exclusive fishing umbrella if possible.
